Downtown Lens: Curated by Richard Boch

This compelling group show highlighted the work of 20 notable photographers who captured the vibrant essence of New York City nightlife during the mid-Seventies and early Eighties. It offered an inside look at infamous venues such as Mudd Club, CBGB, Danceteria, and Max's Kansas City.

New York City in this transformative period was a canvas of dynamic energy and experiences. With a sense of accidental privilege, artists including Maripol, Kate Simon, Bob Gruen, David Godlis, Michael Halsband, Roberta Bayley and more immortalized the raw freedom that defined their environment. The streets and clubs became a backdrop for history, where joy, intensity, and creativity flourished in unexpected ways. The photographs featured in this exhibition are not just images; they embody the laughter, tears, and awe of a time that forever shaped the city’s cultural landscape.

Downtown Lens was on display from February 4, 2026 through May 3, 2026. Additional images from the exhibit were concurrently on display at The Roxy Hotel, 2 Avenue of the Americas.
